ALVA – The Cameron volleyball team lost their final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday night as they went down in three at Northwestern Oklahoma State.
After a long trip out west, the Aggies took a break from Lone Star Conference play on Tuesday to battle in-state, non-league foe NWOSU. CU was able to keep it close in the opening two sets, but were unable to turn in a set win as they lost their 20th straight match.
Cameron had one of their least efficient match of the season on the attack, hitting -0.31 with 30 kills on 128 attacks. Despite totaling 10 blocks, they lost the battle at the net as the Rangers rejected the road team 19.5 times. The Aggies were able to win at the service line, scoring eight points there compared to NWOSU's three aces.
Bergen Campbell led Cameron with 10.5 points, recording six kills and three blocks, but was one of four players to hit in the negative on the attack. The sophomore also had a team-high 14 digs, besting libero
Presley Shearin by three, and three service aces.
Jessica Lipkit had a team-best six blocks with
Caitlyn Henderson and
Natalia Araujo each adding three as well; Lipkit also added two aces from the service line.
Freshman
Anjolie Navarrete tied Campbell with a CU-leading six kills to go along with six digs. Setters
Desiree Marmolejo (16) and
Noemie Narbonne (eight) combined for 24 assists and 16 digs.
Set one could have gone either way as there were five tie scores and four lead changes in the frame. A 5-0 run by the Rangers to take a 14-10 lead gave them enough of an advantage to hold on for the 25-21 win.
The second set started like the first with three tie scores early until a 6-0 stretch for NWOSU put them up 12-6. The Aggies were able to come back and tie the frame on a kill by Campbell, forcing a timeout by the home team. They responded with five straight points to regain a five-point lead. CU got back within one (22-21) on a kill by Araujo, but the Rangers scored three of the final four points to go up 2-0 in the match.
In the third, Cameron hit in the negative for the second time in the match, getting blocked eight times. NWSOU led 9-2 early and then used a 9-1 stretch late to cruise to a 25-14 win to sweep the match.
The Aggies are now 1-21 on the year and 0-10 in road matches. They return to league play on Friday, Oct. 22, when the host Eastern New Mexico while trying to secure their first LSC win of the year. First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Aggie Gym.
