Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cameron suffers home loss to SWOSU

LAWTON – For the second straight game, the Aggies struggled shooting on their home floor, but this time it came in a 93-72 loss on Wednesday to a ranked Southwestern Oklahoma State team.

Coming off a two-point loss against Central Oklahoma on Tuesday, the Cameron women's basketball hosted former Aggie Kelsi Musick's Bulldog team on Wednesday in a pre-Thanksgiving battle. The Black and Gold shot just 33 percent from the floor while SWOSU was firing on all cylinders in the over 20-point win.

The Aggies' cold shooting started in the first quarter as they missed their first seven shots during a 10-0 run by the Bulldogs to start the game. CU took. 79 shots in the game and made just 26. They were also 10-30 from three and 10-12 from the foul line.

On the other side of the floor, SWOSU hit on over 47 percent of their shots, going 14-33 from long range and 13-18 from the charity stripe. Everything else in the box score was about even with the turnovers (12-11) and rebounds (47-46) separated by just one in favor of the Bulldogs.

Stephanie Peterson recorded Cameron's first double-double of the season scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She was 6-15 from the floor and 2-5 from three while Maighan Hedge shot 6-13 from the field and 2-6 from three in a 17-point effort. Courtnee Cash added a career-high eight points while Jenni Beebe and Whitney Outon each had six.

After the 10-0 deficit to start the game, the Aggies were able to come back and tie it at 12 on a layup by Hedge at the 2:26 mark in the first period. SWOSU answered and led by three through the first 10 minutes of play.

The Bulldogs then went 10-14 from the floor and 4-6 from three in the second quarter to score 29 points while Cameron missed 29 percent of their shots during the period, which led to them trailing by 12 (50-38) at the halftime break.

SWOSU extended their lead to 21 in the third quarter and then at most 26 late in the fourth. Makes by Karley Miller and Kassie Boorer in the final seconds reset the deficit to 21 as the Bulldogs claimed the 93-72 win.

Makyra Tramble was one of six Southwestern players in double-figures, scoring 27 points while adding seven boards and five helpers. Karley Gore added a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Now 4-3, the Aggies will look to snap their current three-game losing skid when they host another Great American Conference in Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday, Nov. 27, at 2 p.m.
