Game Recap: Softball |

Aggies swept by No. 16 RSU in doubleheader

CLAREMORE - The Cameron softball team sees six-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the No. 16 ranked Rogers State Hillcats, as the CU bats get shut down during Thursday's doubleheader.

The Cameron Aggies have cruised to this point in the season, losing just one game to this point in the season, CU came in on a six-game winning streak, and 7-1 overall. CU went on the road to take on RSU, who beat the Aggies a year ago and looked to keep their streak alive during a Thursday non-conference doubleheader.

In game one, the Aggies offense was shutout and run-ruled, 9-0. A four-run first inning allowed the game to spiral out of control for the Black and Gold. Breley Webb tossed all four innings, giving up eight earned runs, three walks, and eight hits. Webb also threw a wild pitch in this game and could not quite find it in the circle.

At the plate, CU was shut down by Andrea Morales who tossed five innings of shutout ball while allowing just six hits and issuing one free pass, working out of trouble with ease. In four innings of work, the Hillcat offense saw four players earn a multi-hit game.

In game two, the Aggies only lost by a pair of runs, as the bats woke up a bit to scratch across two runs. CU again was limited to six hits, and only had seven base runners total in this contest. Kylie French's double to left field that plated Callie Christensen and Khmari Edwards was the only damage CU could do in game two.

This game went the full seven innings with Bethany Hines in the circle tossing all seven frames, facing 25 batters, striking out four, and issuing only one free pass. All four runs were earned for Hines, as she was roughed up for four extra-base hits including a home run.

The Aggies will now enter Lone Star Conference play on a two-game skid, and a 7-3 record. CU has yet to play a home game and still will not get that chance for a few more weeks. The schedule has done CU no favors, but Kayla Adams has remained consistent in wanting to put her squad to the test ahead of taking part in one of the best softball conferences in DII. CU ultimately handled that test well, now turning their sights to conference play the road does not get easier.

Up next for Cameron, they will take on Angelo State for a doubleheader on Friday, March 5, with the first pitch in San Angelo, Texas set for 4 p.m. The Aggies will conclude their first Lone Star Conference weekend against Lubbock Christian on Sunday, March 7, at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader with the Lady Chaps.
