DURANT – The Cameron tennis teams split a pair of matches at Southeastern Oklahoma State, with the men winning 4-3 and the women falling 5-2 for their first loss of the spring.
Cameron's men moved to .500 on the season and is now 3-2 against Division II opponents with their third straight win on Saturday against the Savage Storm.
The Aggies started out slow by not getting the doubles point and falling behind 1-0.
Maycon Dias and
Joao Duleba recorded the only doubles win, taking down their opponent 6-3 on court two.
After falling behind 3-0 with two-set losses at one and two, Cameron made a comeback with three set wins at the remaining four singles spots to win the match 4-3. Dias got things started with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 win at three and
Alvaro Chavez got CU to within one with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win at four. Duleba tied the match with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 win on court five before
Carlos Vidal clinched the win with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at six.
The Aggie women, who started out the spring season 6-0, had almost exact opposite results against SEOSU compared to the men.
Cameron swept doubles play with
Lea Manga and
Alisa Savina winning 7-6 at one,
Karolina Glowinska and
Melany Opolz winning 6-1 at two, and
Pilar Jaurena and
Alex Lopez defeating their opponent 6-4 on court three to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In singles, the Black and Gold's only point came at three, where Manga beat her opposition 7-6, 6-3. Of the other five battles in singles, only
Julianne Garcia played to three sets, falling 4-6, 6-3, 3-6 on court five.
Next up for the Aggie women is a match against Central Oklahoma, which was postponed earlier this season, on Tuesday, March 16, in Edmond, Okla. Both teams will then open Lone Star Conference play on Thursday, March 18, against UAFS in Fort Smith, Ark.
