Majenge earns All-Conference status with gold and silver medals

RICHARDSON, Texas – After his strong performance on Saturday at the Lone Star Conference Championships, Cameron student-athlete James Majenge was official named All-Conference when the league honors were released on Wednesday.

Majenge, who was an All-LSC performer in 2019, repeated his performance during the 2021 championships in Canyon, Texas this past weekend. The senior collected the fifth most points by an individual, scoring 18 with a silver medal in the 1500 and a gold medal in the 5,000 meter race, giving him now one of each in the two events for his career.

The criminal justice major is the first two-time track and field All-LSC performer in Aggie program history.

The list of all-conference performers includes the first team, which consists of event winners, all members of the winning relay teams, and athletes scoring 14 or more points at the LSC Championships.  The second team includes athletes on the second-place relay teams and those scoring 8-13.9 points, while the third team recognizes members of third-place relay teams and athletes scoring 6-7.9 points.  Overall, 68 men and 57 women were honored.

In the 5K, Majenge ran a time of 15:11.73, a full two seconds ahead of the next closest finisher. He also ran a time of 4:04.41 in the 1500, just over a second behind the LSC Champion in the event. Majenge is just over five seconds back of the qualifying time in the 1500 and 17 seconds back of the 5K mark.

Cameron head coach Zach Johnson announced earlier this week that Majenge will be competing in a "last chance" meet to try and better those times. The scheduled meet is the Loper Twilight hosted by Nebraska-Kearney in Kearney, Neb. on Saturday, May 15.

The qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be announced May 18 via NCAA.com press release.  The DII championships are May 27-29 at the GVSU South Complex in Allendale, Mich.
