DENTON, Texas – The Cameron women's golf team shot their highest round of the DBU Women's Classic in the final round on Tuesday, but stood pat in the team rankings, finishing in ninth place with a 906.
The Aggies opened their second tournament of the year with a 305 and then followed that up with a season-low 293 in the second round, putting them in ninth place heading into the final 18 holes at the Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch.
Ashley Davis had the low round of the day for CU, shooting an even par to give her a 224 for the three-round event. She finished four strokes back of her teammate
Iona Roska, who carded a 76 during Tuesday's round. Roska tied for 12thindividually and Davis finished tied for 25th.
Gerdur Ragnarsdottir closed out the tournament with a score of 78, giving her a 229 total, while
Ellie Fellers and
Emma Englefield matched 82's in the final round with Fellers finishing with a 236 and Englefield posting a 239 on the big board.
Ragnarsdottir had one of the highest number of pars of the field, recording 38 even pars while Roska was one back with 37. Davis led Cameron with eight birdies, while Roska had the team's lone eagle of the 54-hole event. The senior finished with a three-under par-5 score.
Lynn University came away with the team title, finishing with a three-round score of 871, seven strokes better than St. Mary's, who shot a 303 on Tuesday. DBU, Indianapolis, and West Texas A&M rounded out the top-5 teams.
Individually, North Georgia's Madeline Ananthasane retained her lead from the opening round, finishing as the top medalist with a 209, five strokes better than the two second place finishers.
Next up on the fall schedule for Cameron is the Grace Shinn Invitational hosted by Central Oklahoma, Oct. 4-5, at the Golf Club of Edmond.
