DALLAS, Texas – Senior
Iona Roska led the way with a top-10 finish as the Cameron women's golf team opened their 2021-22 season with a solid first round at the DBU Women's Invitational on Tuesday and finished in ninth with a 36-hole score of 626.

The Aggies began a new competition season on Tuesday, competing at the Golf Club of Dallas in a two-round, one-day tournament for their fall debut. Head coach
Christi Williams' had all eight of her student-athletes competing on the hot early-September day in central Texas.Â

After the opening round of play, Cameron sat in sixth place with a team score of 306. Roska led the way with an even par score of 72 and was sitting in a tie for fourth place individually; she recorded three birdies during her first 18 holes.

Ashley Davis had one birdie during her opening round, shooting a 76, while
Emma Englefield was just one stroke back of her teammate with a 77 and three under-par holes.
Gerdur Ragnarsdottir added an 81 and
Maelle Dreyer rounded out the lineup with an 83.Â

Cameron started to fade in the second round, falling three spots after shooting a 320 team score in their second 18-hole round of the day. After adding 14 strokes to their previous round score, the Aggies finished with a tournament score of 626, which resulted in a ninth place finish.Â

Roska played well enough during the second round to finish inside the top-10 finishers, tying for eighth with a 148 after carding a 76 in the final round. The senior added three more birdies to her scorecard, giving her six for the tournament.Â

Additionally, Davis had a solid finish, carding a 78 in the second round to finish with a 154, good for a tie for 23rd. Englefield ended the day with a 162 after her second-round score of 85, while Dreyer shot an 81 in the second round to finish with a 164. Ragnarsdottir shot an 89 in the final round to card a 170 for the 36-hole event.Â

In her first collegiate tournament, freshman
Malerie Nyberg, who was competing as an individual from CU, shot a 163 with rounds of 84 and 79 on Tuesday.
Ellie Fellers finished three strokes back of her with an 86 and 80, while
Molleejo Crain carded a 170 with back-to-back scores of 85.Â

Cameron finished with 15 birdies as a team and made 87 pars in the two rounds combined.Â
Â
Reigning Division II National Champion and host DBU won the tournament handily, carding a 581, 22 strokes better of the second place finisher. The Lady Patriots had four players finish inside the top-20, including the first, second, and fourth place finishers.Â

Texas A&M International came away with the second place finish, while DBU's "B" team placed third. St. Mary's and Oklahoma Christian rounded out the top-5, while UAFS, Midwestern State, and UT Tyler finished just ahead of Cameron. Texas A&M-Kingsville and Lubbock Christian rounded out the field.Â

DBU's Madison Head led the way individually, beating out teammate Faith DeLaGarza with a two-round score of 142 for the top medalist honor.

Cameron is back in the Dallas area in a few weeks when they compete at the DBU Classic on Sep. 20-21. That tournament, also hosted by DBU, will be played at the Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch in Denton, Texas.Â
