Aggies Fall in Five to Western New Mexico

SILVER CITY, N.M. – Anjolie Navarrete recorded her third triple-double of the season for Cameron as the Aggies fall to Western New Mexico in five sets, 18-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22, and 10-15 on Saturday evening at Drag's Court.

Arianna Navarrete collected her 13th double-double of the season and 24th of her career. Arianna Navarrete had 15 kills, Caitlyn Henderson added 11, Anjolie Navarrete recorded 10, Natalia Araujo scored seven kills, Jacee Stelter added four, and Alice Tuci had one.

Anjolie Navarrete led the Black-and-Gold with 22 assists, Alice Tuci added 12 assists, Meagan Jimenez had five, and Araujo added one.

Arianna Navarrete recorded two aces, Jimenez, Anjolie Navarrete, and Tuci had one ace.

Jimenez scooped a team-high 17 digs, Arianna Navarrete collected 13, Anjolie Navarrete recorded 12, Araujo and Tuci added nine, Jessica Lipkit had seven, Stelter collected four, Camila Bolsoni had two digs, and Henderson added one.

The Aggies, the nation's second-best blocking team, was led by Araujo with seven, Henderson swatted three, and Lipkit had two blocks.

The two teams opened with trading scores, but a 0-4 run gave Western New Mexico a 4-8 lead. CU trimmed the deficit to three at 12-15 and 16-19 but did not get closer, dropping the opening set 18-25.

The second set started like the first set, trading points early until Cameron used a 6-0 run to take a 14-8 lead and a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 18-11. WNMU clawed back within two at 21-19 after a 3-8 run, but CU held off the comeback, taking set two 25-21.

The Mustangs opened the third set with a 1-4 advantage, but the Aggies responded with a 4-0 rally to take a 5-4 lead. The teams would find themselves knotted at 10-10 before Western New Mexico went on a 2-10 rally to take a demanding 12-20 lead. Cameron would fight back, cutting the score to 22-24 after a 10-4 run, but WNMU would stop the bleeding to win the set 22-25.

The Mustangs opened the fourth set with a 3-8 advantage, but the Black-and-Gold would fight back to tie the set at 16-16, and the teams would trade ties up until 22-22, with Cameron using a 4-0 stretch to take the set 25-22.

The Aggies had a 4-1 lead to start the final set. The teams would end up tied at 7-7, and CU would force the floor swap with the eighth point. Western New Mexico would take advantage of Cameron's late errors to win the match on a 1-7 run to close the game 10-15.

The Aggies will host Texas A&M International on Friday, Nov. 4, at 5:30 pm in Aggie Gym.
