SHAWNEE, Okla. – Cameron women's basketball team could not complete the comeback against Oklahoma Baptist, falling to the Bison 79-70 on Saturday inside the Noble Complex.
The Aggies fall to 2-3 on the season, heading into the Lone Star Conference opener on Nov. 30 at UT Tyler.
Alena Wilson took charge on both sides of the ball, turning in game-high points and rebounds with 20 points and 10 rebounds, to go with four assists and a steal.
Kailyn Lay recorded 17 points, Kloe Heidebrecht scored 10, Korie Allensworth and Karley Miller added eight, Katie King scored four, and LaKya Leslie added three points.
Lay pulled in four rebounds, Allensworth, Miller, and Katie King grabbed three boards, Heidebrecht snagged two, and Hallie Horton, Taliyah Johnson, and LaKya Leslie added one rebound.
King served up seven assists, Allensworth and Wilson dished out four, and Heidebrecht and Leslie added one.
Wilson knocked down the first shot for the Aggies, a layup 95 seconds into the game, to tie up the game at 2-2, and at the media timeout, the score would be knotted at 7-7. OKBU would come out of the timeout and go on a 9-3 run to build a 16-10 with three minutes left. Cameron would sink two from deep and make two jumpers in the paint to close the quarter on a 10-3 rally to lead 20-19 after one.
The Bison would pull away in the second quarter by shooting 8-for-11 from the floor, making 6-of-7 threes, and 5-for-8 from the charity stripe in the frame. The Black-and-Gold did not help their case by shooting 4-for-14. Cameron would be down by 16 at the half, trailing 46-30.
CU would keep their second-half ritual alive by being a second-half team. The Aggies would come out of halftime and shoot 10-for-15 from the floor, scoring 26 points in the stanza. Lay and Wilson scored 10 points in the quarter for the Aggies, who finished the third down 10, at 66-56.
In the fourth, the Black-and-Gold could not keep their momentum going, starting the frame shooting 1-for-7, while Oklahoma Baptist hit 3-of-3 shots during the same timeframe to extend their lead to 77-58. CU would outscore OKBU down the stretch 12-2 but would go cold at the end of the game missing their last four shots and falling 79-70.
