EDMOND – The Cameron softball team improved their record to 7-0 as they opened the Edmond Festival with an 11-4 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State.

To open their second weekend of games, the Black and Gold offense struck for 11 runs on 12 hits to take down the in-state foe Bulldogs to add to their program best start.
After SWOSU opened the game with one run in the top of the second, CU's big bat on the day
Haley Castle answered in the bottom of the frame, driving in
Breley Webb on a double to left.
The Bulldogs answered with two more runs in the third on a couple of extra-base hits. The Aggies responded in the bottom of the frame with Webb driving in leadoff batter
Alyssa Deanda on a sacrifice fly and then
Josie Swafford bringing home
Kylie French and
Khmari Edwards on a double to left center, putting the Ags up 4-3.
SWOSU tied it in the fifth, but it did not last long as the Aggies put up seven runs in the bottom of the inning to break the game open.
Maci McMurtrey got things started with an RBI single that brough home French. Castle added another RBI to her game total with another RBI hit that brought home Webb.
After an error brought home another run, freshman
Kaiden Boren tripled to right to drive home Mikaela Richmond and Castle.
Madyson Marvulli provided the final RBI hit of the inning while
Khmari Edwards scored on another error for the seventh run of the frame and the 11th of the inning.
Jocelyn Bright came in to pitch in relief of
Robyn Bales in the third, and the second-year hurler gave up just three hits and one run in 4.2 innings of work while striking out three batters. Bales struck out two and gave up three earned runs on four hits and two walks.
Castle was 3-3 for the Aggies, driving in two runs and scoring another. Webb and Deanda each had two hits while the former scored two runs, tying Edwards and French for the game-high. Boren reached base all four times she came up, getting a hit and three walks while driving in a pair.
