HOUSTON, Texas – Preston Holmes recorded a top-10 finish as the Aggie men's golf team placed third at the Houston Classic on Tuesday with a 54-hole score of 889.

Cameron entered the final day on their first spring tournament in fourth, trailing Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma Christian, and Arkansas Tech, the latter two are currently ranked in the top-5 in Division II by Golfstat. CU went out and shot 287, the second lowest score of the day to move up one spot and finish third.

Holmes moved up four spots on the individual scoreboard, besting his second-round 71 with a 70 during Tuesday's round to finish with a 219. The junior had four birdies during the final round with just one over-par hole on the scorecard.

Hamish Murray recorded a top-20 finish, also shooting 70 in the final round to card a 225 for the event. Tyler Kaman added another 70 to CU's score, giving him a 226 after 54-holes, while Joey Kirk shot 77 to finish with a 228 and Trevor Mierl shot 80 to finish with a 235.

The Aggies had the second-best par-5 score of the field and led the tournament with 175 made pars, adding 33 birdies for the event. Kaman and Murray each had 38 pars on their scorecards while Holmes led CU with 12 birdies.

Arkansas Tech dominated the field, shooting 286 on Tuesday to finish with an 860 for the event, 24 strokes better than OC, who finished second. Cameron was just five strokes back of the Eagles, barely missing out on their second runner-up finish of the 2021-22 season. UCO and Midwestern State made up the rest of the top-5.

ATU's Francois Jacobs and Santiago De La Fuente tied with UCO's Evan Griffith for first with final scores of 213. Jacobs beat his teammate and foe from UCO on the first playoff hole by making birdie.

Next up for the Aggies is the Rattler Invitational at the Dominion Country Club in San Antonio, Texas, Feb. 21-22.
