EDMOND – The Aggies moved up one spot during the final round of the Oak Tree Invitational on Tuesday to finish in second led by a second place finish by freshman
Hamish Murray.
Cameron entered the final round at the Oak Tree Golf Club four strokes back of second place. They made up that ground by shooting a 298 to finish with a 54-hole score of 875, 13 back of the tournament winner and host Oklahoma Christian.
Murray, who was in a 6-way tie for the lead entering Tuesday, followed up his 72 in the first round and 69 score in the second round with another 72 in the third to give him a 213 for the tournament, two back of the individual medalist Mateo Pulcini from OC.
Tyler Kaman had the low round of the day for CU, shooting a 71 to give him a 221 for the tournament, good for a top-20 finish.
Trevor Mierl also finished in the top-20 individually with a 222 after carding a 72 in the final round.
Preston Holmes shot 74 on Tuesday to finish with a 223 while
Joey Kirk totaled a 225 54-hole score after his third round 75.
Hunter Drotts, who was competing as an individual at the Oak Tree Invite, shot a 77 in the final round to give him a 233 for the event.
As a team, Cameron totaled 152 made pars and 36 birdies to go along with their two eagles from Monday's action. Murray led the group with 35 par holes and 10 birdies. Kaman chipped in nine under-par holes while Holmes made 33 pars.
OC's two sub-290 rounds led them to the tournament win with 22-over par score. Cameron bested Central Missouri by one stroke and Henderson State by three. West Texas A&M rounded out the top-5 finishers with an 880 54-hole score.
Pulcini's two even-par rounds and one round of 71 gave him his winning score of 211. Murray finished one stroke ahead of third place finisher Daniel Unger from WT.
Cameron has just two more tournaments on their scheduled before the Lone Star Conference Championship in April. The first is the Lion Invitational hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce in Trophy Club, Texas next week, March 21-22.
