WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Cameron women could not hold off Midwestern State and Oklahoma Christian in the final round of the MSU Invitational on Tuesday, dropping to a third place finish led by
Iona Roska's second place finish.
The Aggies held just a one stroke cushion over the Mustangs and Eagles heading into Tuesday's final round at the Wichita Falls Country Club. MSU surged in the final round to jump CU and win the event by six while OC bested the Black and Gold by just two strokes.
Roska came away with her third career second place finish, carding a 78 in the final round to finish with a 225 three-round score. Her Tuesday score was tied for the CU round low as they finished with a 323 to give them a 950 total score for the event.
Ashley Davis also had a 78 in the final round, giving her a 247 for the tournament while
Ellie Fellers and
Gerdur Ragnarsdottir finished in the top-20 individually with scores of 244 and 245 respectively.
Emma Englefield rounded out the lineup with a 248 54-hole score.
Additionally, individuals
Molleejo Crain and
Malerie Nyberg both shot 83 in the final round to finish with 249 and 261 scores for the tournament.
Cameron led the field with 131 made pars while adding 22 birdies for the three rounds. Roska had the most pars (40) by nine while Davis and Fellers led the Black and Gold with five birdies each.
MSU's 314 in the final round propelled them to their 6-stroke win while OC finished with a 948 for the three rounds after shooting a 320 on Tuesday. Angelo State came in fourth, eight back of CU, with Regis rounding out the top-5 teams.
The Mustangs' Juanita Gomez won the individual medalist honor with a 222, just three strokes ahead of Cameron's Roska. The next closest finisher, OC's Sofia Benavides, was five strokes back of the top-2 players.
After their second third place finish of the season, the Aggies will be back in action next week when they compete in the A&M-Commerce hosted Lion Invitational which will take place in Trophy Club, Texas, March 21-22.
