COMMERCE, Texas – The Aggie track and field programs put together a strong showing at the East Texas Invitational on Saturday including a win by
AJ Espino and multiple top-5 finishes throughout the meet.
Espino came away with a big win in the 3000m steeplechase, running a time of 10:00.04 with
Nino Heluin and
Edward Kipruto placing third and fourth in the event.
Kevin Garcia set a program record in the 200m dash with a time of 23.54.
Lamon Miles set a program record with a time of 50.17 in the 400m with
Madison Edwards finishing two placed behind him in ninth.
Sebastian Padron led a group of six Aggies in the 800 with a time of 1:56.09, good for seventh, while
Nathan Kemp finished just behind his teammate in eighth.
Five Aggie women competed in the 800 with
Genevieve Young finishing in third with a time of 2:25.80 and
Roshae Burrell,
Alejandra Collier, and
Serah Timbwol finished fourth, fifth, and sixth.
Daesha Brathwaite set a school record with a time of 4:50.49 and a second-place finish in the women's 1500m while
Roshae Burrell had a CU best time of 25.60 in the 200m dash.
Dimitris Gkantatsios led a trio of Aggies in the men's 1500m with a time of 4:15.56.
Ethan Stephens placed second in the men's pole vault by clearing the mark of 4.25m while
Alexis Chao and
Hailey Sutton came in third and fourth in the women's event with Chao clearing 3.18m.
Cameron's women's 4x400 team of
Prisca Kouao, Young, Burrell, and Timbwol finished in fifth with a time of 4:09.12 while the top men's quartet of
Madison Edwards, Garcia, Miles, and Padron finished in seventh with a time of 3:25.09.
The meet culminated with the 10000m event late in the night.
Belle Vignes led for the majority of the women's race and finished in second place with a time of 39:08.64. In the men's race, Kipruto finished in fourth with a time of 33:26.77 and
Daniel Parra came in ninth.
Cameron will be back in action next week as the compete in the Sooner Invitational hosted by the University of Oklahoma in Norman on April 16.
