Cameron Drops Two on Saturday

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Cameron closed out the 2022 Reddie-Tiger Invitational by dropping both sides of the doubleheader. The Aggies fell to Auburn-Montgomery to open play on Saturday 3-0 before dropping the finale to Ouachita Baptist 3-0.
 
The Aggies travel to Pittsburg, Kan., on Sept. 2-3 to play in the Pitt State Gorilla Classic. The Black-and-Gold will face New Mexico Highlands and Arkansas-Monticello on Friday before matching up with Mary and Pittsburg State on Saturday.
 
"Blocking was solid all weekend," said Head Coach Brandon Stephenson. " We had players step up when they were called on. It was good to get out and be challenged. It showed us the areas we need to address this week in practice."
 
Against AUM, Arianna Navarrete led Cameron with 10 kills. Natalia Araujo, Caitlyn Henderson and Paris Patterson collected three, Jessica Lipkit added two, and Ada Kuday, Anjolie Navarrete, and Alice Tuci had one. Aggies fell to Auburn-Montgomery 25-19, 25-20, and 25-17.
 
The Black-and-Gold had seven aces; Araujo, Arianna Navarrete, and Patterson had two, while Tuci added one.
 
Tuci collected eight assists, Kuday dished out seven assists, and Anjolie Navarrete and Lipkit had one.
 
Anjolie Navarrete paced the Aggies with 14 digs, Arianna Navarrete added six, Patterson had five, Araujo chipped in four, and Tuci had one.
 
Araujo and Henderson each had three blocks, while Lipkit, Arianna Navarrete, and Patterson blocked two.
 
Auburn-Montgomery got a quick 5-1 lead in the first set. The Aggies climbed back to get within two at 10-12, but a 7-0 run by AUM gave them the gap they needed to hold on to take the first set 25-19.
 
The Aggies built a 19-15 lead late in the second set, but a 10-1 run by Auburn-Montgomery to close out set two 25-20.
 
In the third set, the two teams battled, rallying back and forth before being tied at 10-10. Late AUM closed the match with a 6-2 rally to take the final set 25-17.
 
In the finale, Arianna Navarrete continued to lead the offensive charge, collecting double-digit kills for the third time this weekend. Arianna Navarrete finished the tournament with 42 kills, with 11 against OBU.
 
Maldonado and Patterson tallied five kills, while Henderson, Kuday, and Lipkit added one.
 
The Aggies built an early 6-2 lead in the first set before the teams would trade points until they were tied at 18-18, but three errors down the stretch cost the Black-and-Gold the first set, falling 25-20. In the second set, Cameron could not overcome the nine errors falling 25-17. Cameron started slowly in the final set getting behind 10-5, and could not overcome the Tigers, dropping the third set 25-18.
 
Five Aggies had an ace in the match. Araujo, Lipkit, Anjolie Navarrete, Arianna Navarrete, and Patterson.
 
Tuci dished out 11 assists, Kuday posted nine, Araujo had two, and Henderson and Anjolie Navarrete added one.
 
Patterson led the Black-and-Gold with 11 digs. Arianna Navarrete added six, Anjolie Navarrete collected five, Kuday snagged two, and Araujo had two.
 
Henderson collected six blocks, Araujo clipped four shots, Maldonado and Arianna Navarrete had three, Patterson collected two, and Lipkit and Tuci had one.
