Cameron Returns to the Aggie Gym for OC and UAFS

LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron returns home to kick off a four-game home swing that will start Thursday against Oklahoma Christian at 7:30 pm. The Aggies will welcome Arkansas Fort Smith to Lawton on Saturday for a 3:00 pm tip.

STARTING 5:

1. Jaylan Thomas' career-high 24 points were not enough as the Aggies fell to Angelo State 73-56 last Saturday. Caylen Goff-Brown chipped in 19 points.
2. The Black-and-Gold has five players averaging nine points per game or more, led by DeSean Munson (12.3 ppg), Caylen Goff-Brown (11.5 ppg), Reggie Prudhomme and Colt Savage (9.3 ppg), and Jaylan Thomas (9.0 ppg). CU is averaging 70.2 points per game while shooting 45.4 percent from the floor and ranks seventh in the conference shooting 34.4 percent from three. They also grab the fourth most defensive rebounds a game, 25.4.
3. OC is on a three-game losing streak after dropping two home games last week to St. Edward's and St. Mary's. The Eagles score 71.8 ppg while surrendering 72.0 ppg. They have four players averaging double figures, Drew Tennial (14.9 ppg), Antonio Gordon (13.9 ppg), Moun'Tae Edmundson (12.2 ppg), and Karlyn Kenner (11.2 ppg).
4. They dropped two close games last week to St. Mary's and St. Edward's. They score 66.1 points per game, shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 33.0 percent from three. They have the top scorer in the LSC in Brown, who averages 20.2 ppg.
5. Jan. 19 is the birthday of Janis Joplin, Robert E. Lee, Dolly Parton, and Edgar Allan Poe, while Jan. 21 was the day Stonewall Jackson, Jack Nicklaus, and Hakeem Olajuwon were born.


LAST TIME OUT:

Jaylan Thomas' career-high 24 points were not enough as the Aggies fell to Angelo State 73-56 last Saturday. Caylen Goff-Brown chipped in 19 points. CU finished the game shooting 38.2 percent, making 21-of-55 shots from the floor, 6-of-24 threes for 25 percent, and 8-of-11 free throws. ASU made 27-of-59 shots for 45.8 percent, hitting 13-of-33 three-pointers for 39.4 percent and shooting 6-for-8 at the charity stripe.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES:

The short-handed Aggies dropped to 2-15, 0-11 LSC, 0-7 DIV., after falling to UTPB and Angelo State last week. They are averaging 70.2 points per game while shooting 45.4 percent from the floor and rank seventh in the conference shooting 34.4 percent from three. They also grab the fourth most defensive rebounds a game, 25.4. Defensively, the Aggies are giving up 80.1 points to their opposition while allowing teams to shoot 45.2 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from three. Cameron has five players averaging nine points per game or more, led by DeSean Munson (12.3 ppg), Caylen Goff-Brown (11.5 ppg), Reggie Prudhomme and Colt Savage (9.3 ppg), and Jaylan Thomas (9.0 ppg).

SCOUTING THE EAGLES:

Oklahoma Christian comes into the matchup at 7-10, 3-8 LSC, 3-4 DIV., on a three-game losing streak after dropping two home games last week to St. Edward's and St. Mary's. Antonio Gordon led OC against StMU with 15 points, five rebounds, two blocks, two steals, and an assist. The Eagles score 71.8 ppg while surrendering 72.0 ppg. They have four players averaging double figures, Drew Tennial (14.9 ppg), Gordon (13.9 ppg), Moun'Tae Edmundson (12.2 ppg), and Karlyn Kenner (11.2 ppg).


LAST TIME AGAINST OC:

Despite shooting 50 percent against Oklahoma Christian, the Aggies would fall 73-64 in the last meeting. However, a solid shooting night and 29 combined points from Marques Warrior Jr. and Colt Savage were not enough to take down the Eagles. The Aggies out-shot OC from the field and from three, where they were 4-12, while Oklahoma Christian shot 43.6 percent from the floor and 3-19 from three. The home team got to the free throw line for 28 attempts, making 22, while Cameron was 12-19 from the charity stripe in the loss. Warrior led CU with 15 points to go along with a pair of steals. He was 5-11 from the field and 2-3 from long range. Savage added 14 points, near his season average, going 5-9 from the floor and 2-5 from three.


SCOUTING THE LIONS:

UAFS is 8-9 on the season, 4-7 in conference play, and 3-4 in the East Division. They dropped two close games last week to St. Mary's and St. Edward's. Last time out, Payton Brown turned in a game-high 38 points, half of what the Lions would score. They score 66.1 points per game, shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 33.0 percent from three. UAFS allows opponents to score 67.9 ppg, making 43.9 percent from the field and 33.9 percent from beyond the arc. They have the top scorer in the LSC in Brown, who averages 20.2 ppg.


LAST TIME AGAINST UAFS:

In the last meeting, Brock Schreiner, Colt Savage, and Connor Slater combined for 43 points as Cameron dropped the game 74-63. The Aggies had a trio of players with solid games but did not get much support from the rest of the bench. Schreiner led the way with 15 points to go along with seven boards. He was 6-15 from the floor and just 2-11 from three. Savage added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Slater chipped in 14 points as well while going 6-11 from the floor. As a team, CU shot 43.1 percent from the floor but was just 5-21 from three and 14-21 from the charity stripe. They won the rebounding battle 34-31 but turned the ball over 13 times, compared to the Lions' seven giveaways.


WHO HAS NEXT:

Cameron stays home to host West Texas A&M on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 pm. They will close the homestand against Lubbock Christian on Jan. 28 at 3:00 pm.
