Women's Golf Opens Season at Battle at Hilton Head

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron women's golf team begins their spring schedule against a tough field as they compete in the Battle at Hilton Head in Hilton Head Island, SC.

The Aggies finished the fall with a second-place finish at their home tournament, while Ellie Fellers won the Oklahoma Intercollegiate tournament. CU opens the spring ranked No. 58 in Division II by Golfstat.

The Black-and-Gold opens the spring against a field that boasts 12th-ranked Lee, No. 20 Wingate, and the third-ranked team in the NAIA, SCAD-Savannah. The other teams competing this week will be Barton, Belmont Abbey, Carson-Newman, Coastal Georgia, Coker, Converse, Lenoir-Rhyne, Lincoln Memorial, Mount Olive, Newberry, North Greenville, Shorter, South Carolina Beaufort, and Young Harris.

The Battle at Hilton Head will be played on the Robert Trent Jones Course at Palmetto Dunes and is a par 72 with a distance of 5934 yards.

Head coach Christi Williams will start the season with a veteran lineup featuring Ashley Davis, Maelle Dreyer, Fellers, Malarie Nyberg, and newcomer Maria Jose Savoca as the Aggies begin their pursuit for a Lone Star Conference Championship.

Cameron's spring schedule features five tournaments before the LSC Championship, which will be played in Thackerville, Okla. At the WinStar Redbud Course, April 24-26.

Following their trip to South Carolina, CU will compete in the Hardscrabble Invitational on March 6-7. Then they will cross the red river to Wichita Falls, Texas, to play in the MSU Mustang Classic, March 13-14. Next up, Cameron will head to Tyler, Texas, to play in the King-Alfred Spring Invitational on March 20-21. They will finish the season at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic in Goodyear, Ariz., on March 31- April 1.
