The Aggies Lose to Close out the Season

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Cameron women's basketball team falls in the season finale to Midwestern State 69-65 inside the D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Aggies are waiting to see how the tiebreaker situation unfolds to see if they earn a birth into the Lone Star Conference tournament.

Alena Wilson led the Black-and-Gold with 19 points, Katie King scored 16, and Korie Allensworth added 12. LaKya Leslie recorded six, Kailyn Lay and Karley Miller scored four points, and Alannah Gillespie and Kiara Lovings had two. 

King grabbed nine boards, Wilson snagged seven, Miller pulled in four, Allensworth, Kloe Heidebrecht, Leslie collected three rebounds, and Lovings added two.


Lay dished out four assists, Allensworth and King added two, and Heidebrecht and Miller had one.

Allensworth swiped four steals, Lay and Wilson stole two, and Gillespie and King had one.

Leslie and Wilson blocked a shot.

The Aggies shot 40.6 percent from the field, making 26-of-64 attempts and 20.0 percent from three-point range while making 10-of-13 free throws. The Mustangs knocked down 46.3 percent of shots and 40.0 percent of long-range and were 13-for-25 shots at the charity stripe.

CU opened the game with a 6-0 lead, holding the Mustangs without a basket for the first 5:39. Down the stretch, MSU would go on a 16-10 run with the Black-and-Gold holding onto a 16-15 lead after one.


Over the first half of the second quarter, Cameron would go on a 10-4 run to build a 26-19 lead. After a 7-0 run by Midwestern, they would tie the game at 26-26 with 4:29 until the half. MSU closed the half with a 9-7 advantage to take a 35-33 lead into the break.

The Mustangs came out of the break on an 11-2 run to build an 11-point lead with 4:25 to play in the third quarter. The Aggies closed the frame on a 6-4 run to cut the game to 50-41.

Cameron would bring the game within two possessions in the fourth quarter at 61-56 after a 7-2 run. MSU would build their lead back to 10, but the Aggies chipped away, getting the game within three points, but ran out of time.
