The Aggies Sweep Mustangs Sunday

LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron completes the series sweep over rival Midwestern State with a 10-2 run-rule win in game one and an 8-7 win in the series finale at McMahon Field Sunday afternoon.

Jocelyn Bright pitched a complete game in the opener, going five innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out eight.

At the dish, Kylie French went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, and Kaiden Boren was 1-for-2 with a run and a walk. Ashlynn Bruce was 1-for-3 with two RBI, a run, and a home run, Karis Clark was 1-for-1 with two walks, a run, an RBI, and a stolen base, Maci McMurtrey was 1-for-3, recording two runs, and two stolen bases, Taylor Rowley had a 1-for-1 outing with two walks, two RBI, a run, and a stolen base, and Josie Swafford was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

French drove in Khmari Edwards with a ground ball, and McMurtrey scored on a double steal to get the Aggies on the board in the first inning with a 2-0 lead.


In the second, French singled to center to score Mikayla Richmond, Rowley walked with the bases loaded to allow McMurtrey to score, and French scored on a wild pitch giving CU a 5-0 lead after two innings.

The Mustangs scored two runs in the fourth, making it 5-2.

During the bottom of the fourth, the Black-and-Gold rallied to score five runs. Rowley singled home French, Clark drove in Boren with a single, and Rowley scored on an infield single by Swafford. Bruce closed the scoring with a two-run home run to center driving in Clark.

The heart of the order led the way for Cameron as Rowley would go 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and two triples, Boren went 2-for-2 with two runs, two walks, and a triple, Bruce had a 1-for-3 game with a run, an RBI, and a double, Clark was 1-for-3 with an RBI, an HBP, and a stolen base, French was 1-for-4 with two RBI, Kyndel McDaniel was 2-for-3 with a run, and a double, Richmond was 1-for-3 with a run, and a double, and Swafford was 1-for-2 with an RBI, a walk, and a sac fly.

Swafford would get the start going three innings, surrendering four runs, on four hits, with five strikeouts. Stormee Reed, a freshman from Shawnee, Okla., pitched the final four innings, earning her first collegiate victory. She allowed three runs, one earned on five hits, while collecting nine strikeouts.

MSU scored three runs in the top of the first.

Rowley smacked a triple into the left-center gap to score Boren, then scored on a double from Clark to cut the score to 3-2 after a frame.

The Mustangs would get a run in the second. The Aggies would answer back in their half of the inning with a Bruce doing that drove in McDaniel, and an RBI single from French scored Bruce and Richmond to give CU a 5-4 lead.

In the fourth, Rowley would hit her second triple to score Boren, and she would cross the plate on a sacrifice fly from Swafford to give Cameron a 7-4 lead.

Midwestern State scored a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to tie the game at 7-7 heading into the final inning.

Reed would strike out the first batter of the top of the seventh. She then walked one and gave up a single before striking out another Mustang and got a groundball to third for French to step on the bag and record the final out.

Swafford walked to start the rally in the bottom of the seventh, and then Alyssa Deanda pinch-ran. Kelsye Loughman would bunt back to the pitcher. As she fielded it, she turned and fired wide of second base, with the ball making it to the wall in center, which allowed Deanda to hurry around the bases and score the winning run, as Cameron took the final 8-7.

The Aggies will travel to Denton, Texas, to face Texas Woman's at 6:00 pm.
