WICHITA, Kan. – The Cameron men's track and field team fought for positioning in a deep Friends University Spring Open on Saturday.
Joshua Villescas took 46th in the 100-meter spring with a time of 11.225 seconds, and he ran the 200 meters in 22.63 seconds to place 42nd.
Kevin Garcia sprinted the 200-meter race in 23.17 seconds to come in 67th place, and in the 400-meter run, he came in 30th with a time of 50.66 seconds.
Lamon Miles finished the 400-meters in 1:11.80 seconds to finish in 84th place.
Marcos Herrera crossed in 73rd place in the 800 meters race with a time of 2:15.97.
The 4x100 relay team of Garica, Villescas, Miles, and Nathan Kemp placed 15th with a time of 45.73 seconds.
The Aggies were led by Allen Vasquez in the 1500m race with a 23rd place finish recording a time of four minutes and 10.08 seconds. Emilien Gaillard placed 28th after running the race in 4:12.24. AJ Espino crossed in 33rd, clocking a time of 4:13.64. Edward Kipruto had a 42nd-place finish with a time of 4:18.11. Daniel Parra ran the race in 4:21.24 to finish in 52nd. Adrian Alonso Canales placed 54th with a time of 4:21.83. Herrera came in 66th, crossing the finish line at the 4:28.74 mark.
Gaillard paced CU in the 5000-meter run, placing 17th with a time of 15 minutes and 41.60 seconds. Canales finished in 23rd, clocking a finish of 15:50.06. Espino came in 26th after running the race in 15:59.13. Kipruto clocked a time of 16:08.83 to finish in 30th place. Brian Easter finished in 37th with a time of 16:33.50.
The Black-and-Gold return to Wichita, Kan., next weekend when they compete in the KT Woodman Invitational hosted by Wichita State.
