THACKERVILLE, Okla. – The Cameron men's golf strong start boasts them to second place after the first day of the Lone Star Conference Tournament at the WinStar Golf Club on Monday.

In the first round, the Aggies shot a 279 to hold a three-stroke lead at lunch. In the afternoon, CU recorded a round of 289 to wrap up day one with a 568 and sit four shots behind Oklahoma Christian and a stroke up on Midwestern State heading into the final 18 rounds before match play begins on Wednesday at 8:00 am.

Hamish Murray shot a 67-72—139, four strokes behind leader Exequiel Rodriguez of OC for the lead.

Preston Holmes and Chris Somerfield are tied for fifth place. Holmes carded a 72-70—142, while Somerfield scored a 69-73—142.

Tied for 18th place is Hunter Drotts with a two-round total of 71-75—146 and rounding out the team for the Black-and-Gold is Trevor Mierl, who shot a 73-74—147 and sits tied for 24th.

Cameron had 108 pars through two rounds; they led the field with 40 birdies and made an eagle. Somerfield had 26 pars and seven birdies, Drotts and Holmes connected on 23 pars, Holmes sunk eight birdies, while Drotts had six. Murray had 21 pars while tied for the most birdies with 10. Mierl added 15 pars, nine birdies, and an eagle.
