Cameron Falls Twice to Close Season; Heads into LSC Tournament as No. 5-seed

CANYON, Texas – The Cameron softball team lost both ends of the doubleheader on Saturday to close out the season at Schaeffer Park.

The Aggies took a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning in the opener before two late home runs boosted the Lady Buffs to a 5-3 win.

Kaiden Boren was 3-for-4 with two runs, an RBI, a double, and a triple. Karis Clark was 1-for-4 with a double, Khmari Edwards had a 1-for-4 outing with a run and a stolen base, Taylor Rowley went 1-for-2 and was hit by a pitch, and Josie Swafford ended 1-of-1 with two RBI and a walk.

Robyn Bales pitched 6.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out four.

CU got a run in the top of the first on an infield single from Swafford that drove in Boren.


WT took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning.

The Black-and-Gold would score twice in the third, first off a triple from Boren that scored Edwards, and then Boren came in to score off a sacrifice fly from Swafford.

West Texas scored a run in the sixth and walked off with two runs in the seventh.

Jocelyn Bright started the second game, throwing six innings, giving up five runs, four earned on nine hits.


Mikayla Richmond went 2-of-3, Ashlynn Bruce was 1-for-3 with a double, Clark had a 1-of-3 outing, and Rowley went 1-for-2 with a run, a stolen base, and a walk.

Boren drove in the lone run on a sac fly in the first that plated Rowley.

WT got two runs in the first, a run in the fourth, and two in the fifth to close it out with a 5-1 game.

The 10-team field has been announced for the 2023 Lone Star Conference Softball Championship, which will be played from May 4-6 at Irwin Ballpark in Tyler, Texas.


UT Tyler is the top seed and host of the single-elimination event after claiming its third consecutive LSC regular season title.


Cameron is locked in as the fifth seed and will match up against No. 4 Lubbock Christian on Friday at 1:30 pm.

The winner of the event will be named the LSC Softball Tournament champion and earn the league's automatic qualification to the 2023 NCAA Division II South Central Regional, held May 11-13 at a site to be determined. The regional selection show is on May 8 at 9 am CT on NCAA.com.
