Aggies Deliver Record-Breaking Performances in Wichita

Lawton, Oklahoma - The Cameron University Track & Field team delivered one of their most impressive meets of the season on Friday at the KT Woodman Invitational in Wichita, Kansas. With ideal weather and top-tier competition, nearly every Aggie athlete notched a personal best an exceptionally rare feat in the sport.

Among the standout performances were school record-breaking runs from Kaat de Staercke in the women's 1500m and Arnau Pujols in the men's 800m. Their achievements headlined a day full of momentum, motivation, and historic times for the Aggies.

Record-Breaking Runs Lead the Way
In the women's 1500m, Kaat de Staercke continued her stellar season by shattering her own school record, clocking in at 4:38.75 a personal best. Her time puts her firmly among the top middle-distance runners in the Lone Star Conference.
On the men's side, Arnau Pujols delivered a powerful performance in the 800m, breaking his own school record with a blazing 1:52.71. His win in the heat and sharp pacing exemplified the Aggies' growing strength in middle-distance events.

More Personal Bests Across the Board

The success wasn't limited to school records. Nearly every Aggie athlete walked away with a personal best in their event:
  • In the women's 800m, Gracie Ortiz (2:22.74) and Terrionna Taylor (2:26.13) both clocked lifetime bests.
  • In the 1500m, Akaya Lightbourne ran a strong 4:50.38, complementing de Staercke's record-setting race.
  • Pia Schweitzer had a standout meet, earning a personal best of 12:09.44 in the 3000m Steeplechase and doubling back with a 10,000m time of 42:25.69, just ahead of teammate Evalynn Pedrosa (42:26.29).
On the men's side, KG Moloisi continued to build momentum with a personal best of 3:51.72 in the 1500m, while Allen Vasquez followed with a PR of 4:06.14. In the 3000m Steeplechase, Phillip David clocked a personal best of 9:40.88.
In the men's 10,000m, Victor Ramos Sambade delivered a gritty and strategic race, finishing with a personal best of 31:16.77 a time that currently ranks him #1 in the Lone Star Conference.

Coach Johnson's Take
"We had a great meet Friday at Wichita," said Head Coach Zach Johnson. "Weather conditions were perfect and the competition was great. Almost everyone that competed got a personal best, which is rare in our sport. Arnau and Kaat both broke their own school records as well. That kind of momentum is exactly what we want to see heading into the final stretch of the season."

Looking Ahead
With just a few meets remaining before the Lone Star Conference Championships, the Aggies are peaking at the right time. If Wichita was any indication, Cameron is on track literally and figuratively for a strong postseason showing.
