PORTALES, NM. - The Aggies Track & Field team traveled to Eastern New Mexico University for the Lone Star Conference Championship weekend on Thursday, May 1st.
The men's and women's teams drove five hours to Portales, NM for the three day event that will continue until Saturday. On the women's side,
Kaat de Staercke kicked off the night by qualifying for Saturday's 1500 meter final. She clocked a time of 4:44.46, placing 11th overall and securing her spot among the top competitors heading into the weekend.
For the men's team, Esteban Soliz Martinez began his grueling journey in the decathlon and currently sits in 5th place with a score of 2,388 points after the opening events. In the men's 1500 meter preliminaries,
Kgaogelo Moloisi and
Noe Chretien delivered standout performances. Their impressive Thursday qualified both Aggies for Saturday's final. Moloisi finished with a time of 4:09.47 and Chretien followed closely with a 4:05.11, placing 4th and 5th.
Capping off the night,
Victor Ramos Sambade held a relentless pace in the men's 10,000 meter final. He crossed the line in 32:17.48, earning 6th place and picking up three valuable points for the Aggies. Cameron will return to the track on Friday with more events including the 800 meter semifinals and the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
