Rockwall, TX - The Cameron University Men's Golf team captured the Lone Star Conference Championship on Wednesday afternoon. This marks the first Lone Star Championship victory for the Men's golf team since 2016 and its 12th Lone Star Championship in program history, and the most in the Lone Star Conference.
Starting out the day, Cameron faced off against West Texas A&M in the semifinals of medal match play. The Aggies battled back after being down 1-4 to come out on top, 3.5-1.5.
Isaac Molloy won his match after finishing 1-up on Victor Estas.
Dennon Norman and Luis Palomo tied in their match. Alois Casalong finished 8-up on Jose Rozas.
Rory Gorman finished 2-up on Santiago Caride, and David Vega Gerstel finished 3-up on
Carson Wright.
In the finals of medal match play, Cameron faced off against UT Tyler for the Lone Star Conference Chamionship. It was a back-and-forth match, but Cameron clinched points in the last three matches down the stretch to secure the win. UT Tyler's Preston DeSerrano finished 6-up over
Dennon Norman, and
Carson Wright and Jacob Holloway tied.
Isaac Molloy secured the first point for the Aggies after coming back from down two to finishing 3-up on Preston Chabaud.
Alois Casalonga finished 6-up over Corbin Murray, and
Rory Gorman finished 1-up to clinch the winning point after a back-and-forth match against Blake Harwell. This was Cameron's first ever Medal Matchplay win at the Lone Star Conference Championships.
Next up for the Cameron Men's Golf team is the NCAA Division II Championships Super Regional
which features the South Central and West Regions. This will be from Thursday, May 7 through Saturday, May 9 at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, California. They are currently ranked No. 7 in the South Central region.
