The Aggies rallied for a stunning 13-12 victory over New Mexico Highland University in the inaugural Boot Hill Bowl in Dodge City, Kansas, Thanksgiving afternoon. Cameron and Highland battled to a scoreless first half. The Aggies exploded for the first score on the first play of the second half, when Ed Marshall made a sparkling catch between two defenders at the 25 and side-stepped a plunging tackle to complete the 65 yard touchdown strike. Buzz Jensen tacked on what proved to be the winning point.

Highland came right back driving 71 yards in 9 plays for the score. The extra point was no good and Cameron still led 7-6. After several punt exchanges, Highland's offense began to move again and scored with 9:52 left in the ball game. The Cowboys tried to run the conversion and failed so the score stood 7-12. Highlands began to move again when they intercepted on the Aggie 39. They moved to the Cameron 5 where defensive tackle Jeff Bergman intercpeted a lateral and ran 69 yards to the Highland 6. Harold Colbert carried the ball in and Cameron led 13-12. The stubborn Cameron defense held the Cowboys three times in the race to the finish. Two last second field goal attempts by Highland were no good. Again Dennis Chaddick was named outstanding defensive player.
