Zach Johnson was named as Cameron's third head cross country coach in July 2014 after spending a decade at Oklahoma Baptist University. In the fall of 2018, he took the helm of the newly formed women's cross country team and both of the Aggie track teams.
In 2018, the Aggies put together a historical campaign, winning three races (SWOSU Invitational, Red River XC Shootout, LSC Preview Meet) before claiming their best conference finish in program history, finishing in third place. CU was led by LSC Newcomer of the Year James Majenge, who was the individual champion in the league race. Majenge went on to be Cameron's first LSC Champion in a track event, winning the 1500m and placing second in the 5000m to earn a spot on the All-LSC team.
The 2018-19 athletic season was also historic as Johnson led the Aggie women into their first cross country and track seasons in program history. The CU women had three second place finishes during the fall and finished in sixth at the LSC Championships, that saw Edna Cheptum finish in 12th to receive all-conference acclaim.Â
Johnson had another successful fall during the 2019 cross country season. The men claimed three more race wins and replicated their third place finish at the LSC Championships. Majenge was once again an All-LSC selection and went on to earn All-South Central Region and All-American status at the regional and national races. The women collected three top-3 finishes, including a win at the Aggie Duels, their home event during the fall.Â
