Rodney DeLong was named head coach for the Cameron University Softball program in July, 2013 after earning a name as one of Oklahoma’s top prep softball coaches.
During the 2015 season, the Aggies reached new heights and broke season program records in batting average, slugging percentage, runs, homeruns, RBI, walks, and wins. Cameron won a program best 41 games, and had a 17 game winning streak which was also the longest since softball started at CU in 1977. The Aggies made their second trip to the NCAA Tournament as the number-4 seed and reached the regional championship game. In the postseason, CU had the most LSC honorees with nine student-athletes being selected, two LSC Gold Glove Winners, eight All-South Central region selections, and two All-Americans.
In his first year at Cameron, DeLong led the Aggies to their first winning season (31-21) since 2009 and the program's first NCAA Regional Berth. In 2014, Cameron broke a decade long record for steals in a season with 71.
Prior to Cameron, DeLong compiled an overall 211-64 softball coaching record at Cache and Lawton MacArthur High School. At Cache, he led the Bulldogs to five district championships, four regional championships, and a state championship.
DeLong also has experience as the head baseball coach at Cache, leading them to a 90-62 record, and their first state tournament appearance in school history.
In the spring of 2013, DeLong was named Coach of the Year (Large) by the Oklahoma Slow Pitch Softball Coaches Association. In 2012, he was the 3A/4A Oklahoma West Coach of the Year, and in 2010 he was named Region 4 Coach of the Year.
He has also had 14 players that have signed to play at the collegiate level.
As an undergrad, he was the first signee by former baseball coach Todd Holland. In two seasons as an Aggie, DeLong started in 79 games during the 2004 and 2005 seasons, with 75 hits, and 54 RBI. He also played two years at Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa, and earned second team all-region after hitting .390 with 10 homers and 56 RBI as a sophomore.
DeLong played baseball at Lawton-MacArthur High School and earned all-conference and all-area honors after hitting .468 as a senior.
DeLong earned his undergraduates degree at Cameron in 2005 and obtained his masters at East Central University in 2013.
