Brady Huston

Brady Huston was named the head coach for the Cameron Baseball program in the summer of 2015 after spending one season as the team’s top assistant coach.

In 2014, the Aggies saw a seven win improvement, and had a program best three players go onto sign with professional baseball organizations.  Huston in his first season as head coach had the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year and three All-LSC postseason selections. The Aggies surged in year two under Huston and opened the season on an eleven game winning streak and climbed up to No. 10 in the National Polls.  Cameron would make their first LSC postseason run since 2011 and had ten All-LSC Selections.  Huston would put the Aggies in the NCAA Region Rankings for the first time in five years before ending the season with 31 wins.

Huston comes from Seminole State College where he was the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator from 2011-2013, recording a 120-49 record. During that span, Huston had 11 players drafted including 8 pitchers with only one being drafted out of high school.

In 2013, Huston’s pitching staff led the Seminole State Trojans to a 39-17 record and ranked as high as #5 in the country. Huston’s pitching staff finished the regular season ranked #1 in the country in strikeouts (476) and strikeouts per nine innings (10.5). The Trojan pitching staff would end their 2013 regional run with 519 strikeouts to just 167 walks, almost a 3.5:1 ratio. Huston would have 4 pitchers drafted off his 2013 staff including 2nd round pick Teddy Stankiewicz (45th overall, Boston Red Sox), Caleb Simpson (San Francisco Giants), Jorge Perez (Houston Astros), and Ty Williams (New York Mets). Trojan right handed pitcher Kevin Hill would garner NJCAA All-America honors under Huston’s watch with a 7-2 record and 92/15 K/BB ratio. Huston would see 7 other pitchers move on to 4-year schools in 2013.

In 2012, Huston’s pitching staff led the Trojans to a 41-15 mark and back to back conference championships, ranking as high as #7 in the country. The Trojan staff was led by eventual Baltimore Orioles draftee (12th Round selection) and University of Oklahoma signee Billy Waltrip. Waltrip tallied a 7-2 record and finished with 97 strikeouts in just 72 innings. Texas Tech signee Nick Pettus was a mainstay as the Trojans closer and set a record for saves in a season (10) and appearances (28) while logging 34.2 innings and a 44/6 K/BB ratio. Stephen Williams (Boston Red Sox) was also selected in the Major League Baseball draft after he appeared in 25 games and logged 30 innings with 43 strikeouts. Five other Trojan pitchers would move on to 4 year universities in 2012.

In Huston’s inaugural year with the Trojans, the Trojan pitching staff won 40 games and ranked as high as #9 in the country while posting a 3.44 ERA, the lowest since the 2003 season. En route to a 40 win season, the Trojans posted 19 wins against teams ranked in the top 25 in the nation. In 2011, the Huston’s pitching staff had 6 pitchers move on to four year schools and sophomore LHP Wayland Moore was named to the NJCAA All-American Team with a perfect 9-0 record and 80K’s in 69 Innings. In the summer of 2011, the Huston’s pitching staff put 6 players in summer collegiate leagues while Chase Stevens was named the 14th overall prospect and an All-Star in the Northwood’s League.

Huston came to Seminole State after spending a year and a half at Wharton County Junior College. In his only season at Wharton, his pitching staff was instrumental in guiding the Pioneers to regular season wins against the #1, #2, #15, and #18 teams in the country as well as a birth in the Region XIV tournament. In 2010, his staff ranked in the top eight in ERA, innings pitched, hits allowed, and runs allowed in the TNMJCA while picking off 47 base runners. At Wharton, Huston had one recruit taken in the 2010 draft and saw five players sign four year scholarships. Under his leadership, the Pioneers had four players named to the TNMJCA All-Star team and five players named to the Region XIV All-Academic Team.

His collegiate coaching career began at Sul Ross State University where he served as the hitting/catching/outfield coach and recruiting coordinator. Under Huston, the offense set team highs for the past decade in average, hits, RBI, runs, doubles, and homeruns. His catchers also saw improvement and led the American Southwest Conference in throw out percentage at 32%. While at Sul Ross, Huston had one player named to the NCAA All-American team and three players named to the American Southwest All-Conference team. Perhaps the largest role Huston played at Sul Ross came as the recruiting coordinator where he made an immediate impact recruiting players from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona. Under the guidance of Head Coach Bobby Mesker, Huston's first recruiting class won 13 more games than the Lobos had since 1999.
Prior to his arrival at Sul Ross State, Huston spent a year in the front office with the Florida Marlins Triple-A Affiliate in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Huston has also served as a head coach for the Burkburnett Blacksox organization, a college preparatory program.

Huston earned his master’s degree at Sul Ross State University in Physical Education and received his bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science with a minor in Biomechanics from Texas Tech University.
