OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Cameron University got exactly what it wanted out of its first visit to the Oklahoma City Arena.
Coach Wade Alexander made extensive use of his bench after the Aggies got off to a quick start en route to a 76-48 men’s basketball victory over Rhema Bible College of Broken Arrow.
Four Aggies scored in double figures and nine played at least 10 minutes as Cameron improved to 5-0. Rhema fell to 0-9.
Cameron took control early, bolting to a 9-0 lead before Joshua White hit a free throw for the Eagles at the 15:39 mark. Nathan Murray had a three-point play and a layup to key the Aggie surge.
Alexander began his liberal substitution at the first media time out. In fact, four reserves played more than 10 minutes in the first half while only one starter, Josh Davis, hit that mark.
Davis led the Ags to a 31-16 halftime lead with nine points. Nikola Vukadinovic hit a pair of three-point field goals and freshman reserve Jonathan Patino matched Murray with five.
Guard Deonta Williams had six points to pace Rhema.
Cameron continued to pour it on in the second half, extending its advantage to 30 points down the stretch.
Davis, a graduate of Spencer High School and a transfer from Hutchinson Community College, led Cameron with 16 points and nine rebounds. Milton Garner added a dozen points, Terry Dawson 11 and freshman Desmond Henry 10.
Freshman Parris Hoskins was the only Rhema player in double figures, finishing with 11.
With Davis setting the pace, Cameron enjoyed a 43-30 rebound advantage. Garner and frosh Jonathan Patino added six apiece.
Garner and Vinicius Telo each had four of Cameron’s 17 assists while Garner and Patino had two steals each.
Alexander was pleased to be able to make liberal use of his bench.
“We need some of the younger players to get comfortable out there,” Alexander said. “We have a good starting nucleus but we’ll need some depth when we get into the Lone Star Conference portion of our schedule.”
Craig Foster, a freshman from Lawton High, played 29 minutes in his first extended action. Patino, a Chicago product, played 26 minutes. Garner led the starters with 22.
The Aggies hit the road this weekend for a pair of Lone Star Conference crossover games. The men and women’s teams visit West Texas in Canyon on Thursday and Eastern New Mexico in Portales on Saturday.
Cameron's next home game will be Dec. 8 against Bacone College of Muskogee.
