Cameron Volleyball Splits Opening Night

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Junior Malyssa Acton had 17 kills and senior Amber Schroer smacked down eight blocks in the first two matches of the season for the Cameron volleyball team Friday afternoon. However, the Aggies dropped the opening match to Missouri Western (17-25, 25-27, 23-25) in straight sets, but bounced back to sweep Stillman (25-12, 25-12, 25-10).

In the opening match Acton pounded out 10 kills against the Griffons, while junior Nikita Abbott tallied nine kills. In her first collegiate match, freshman Jenna Risoli helped the Cameron offense with 18 assists and senior Valerie Ogle added 13.

For the game, Cameron hit just .194, missed on eight serves and miss handled three serve receptions.

In the nightcap, Acton again led the Aggie offense with seven kills and added eight digs, while junior Adrienne Lawson had a match-high 16 digs. Also on the offensive attack Risoli tacked on 16 more assists.

In the third set, Cameron hit .550 and for the match the team had a .360 attack percentage. The Aggies also had nine aces, 37 digs, seven blocks and held Stillman to just an .085 attack percentage.

Cameron will be back in action Saturday morning at 11 a.m. when it plays host Christian Brothers. The Aggies will then close the CBU Tournament with a 1 p.m. match against Ouachita Baptist.
