LAWTON, Okla. – Sophomore Vinicius Telo score 18 points for the Cameron Aggies (10-6, 0-1) Wednesday night in Aggie Gym but it was not enough to offset to offensive spark provided by the Northeastern State RiverHawks (6-9, 1-0) bench as the Aggies fell 75-63.
RiverHawks sophomore Terance Reaves posted 18 points in 24 minutes after coming off the bench for Head Coach Larry Gipson’s squad to down the Aggies in the opening game of Lone Star Conference North Division play.
Reaves’ three point basket with 6:11 remaining in the first sparked an 11-0 by the RiverHawks to send the Aggies into the break down by seven.
The Aggies were able to recoup and come out strong to tie the game at 37 each five minutes into the second stanza before relinquishing the tie for the final time.
Junior guard Milton Garner added 16 points on a 6-for-13 (46-percent) shooting night while also grabbing two defensive rebounds.
For Northeastern, Antoine Branch led the starting five with 16 points of his own on a 3-for-9 (33-percent) night. Branch was 8-of-9 from the charity stripe as the Aggies tried to rally late in the second half.
“We let them split us and get to the foul line far too often,” said Head Coach Wade Alexander. The Aggies went to the charity stripe just 13 ties compared to 30 for the RiverHawks. “It’s been a theme over these past two games and something we have got to fix to have success.”
The Aggies will now hit the road to take on LSC North rival Central Oklahoma. Tip off in Edmond, Okla., is set for 7 p.m.
