Cameron Unable to Hold On as Aggies Fall 74-63 at Southwestern Oklahoma

DURANT, Okla. – The Cameron Aggies (11-8, 1-3 LSC North) were unable to hold to a slim five point lead early in the second half and were beaten on the road Wednesday night by Lone Star Conference North Division rival Southeastern State (2-16, 1-3 LSC North), 74-63.

The Savage Storm men snapped a 16 game losing streak and picked up their first win since their opening game of the season.

Sophomore forward Vinicius Telo led all scorers with 23 points and eight rebounds. The six-foot-eight Brazilian shot 50 percent (8-of-16) on the night and tallied his second-highest point total on the season after posting 24 against Panhandle State early this season.

Darrell Hicks was one of three Southeastern players to go into double-digits and led the team with 22 points. Chris Roussell added 15 points while Ural King posted 13.

Cameron finished the night shooting just 19-percent from three point range (5-of-26) while the home squad was nearly lights out, connecting at a 57 percent clip (12-of-21).

The Aggies were also bested at the foul line where they sunk only 57 percent of their shots (12-of-21). The Savage Storm converted 84 percent (16-of-19) of their free throw chances.

Six lead changes and seven ties tell the story of a game which saw the Aggies head into halftime down 32-31.

With less than 25 seconds remaining in the first and the Aggies down five, junior guard Thomas Razor sank one from the stripe. A quick missed layup by Southeastern allowed for Telo to dish the rebound out to freshman Desmond Henry who sank a three to close the half.

Cameron was able to build a five point second half lead before engaging in a back-and-forth battle which chipped away at their cushion. A Hicks three knotted the game at 48 and vanquished the Aggies lead once and for all.

The Aggies return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 29 as they play host to Texas A&M-Commerce in LSC Divisional play. Tip off in Aggie Gym is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will immediately follow the women’s game.
