Aggies Put Up A Fight Against Lady Buffs

Lawton, Okla. (Oct. 18, 2011) ¬¬ Cameron’s Aggies dropped a hard, three game match tonight to the nationally ranked #14 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs. But the Black and Gold did not go down without a fight, battling to the very end of each game, losing 25-20, 25-21, 25-21.

“We battled pretty well, pretty consistently (throughout the night),” Head Coach Doug Tabbert. “It (our game) felt pretty balanced. Offensively we hit well over .300 against a good team in the first and second games. Our blockers also did a pretty good job and as the match went on, defense also got better.”

Cameron (11-9, 5-8) was led by freshman Kelle Carver, who posted a great .333 hitting percentage with 17 kills on 30 attempts. Carver also added two block assists to her effort to total 18 points for the Aggies. Senior Adrienne Lawson also had a nice night offensively, with 11 kills on 21 attempts.

“She gave them some fits early on and was able to sustain it,” Tabbert said. “We did a good job of competing throughout the night. Got down by some pretty significant margins and came back. Game three we battled better than the first two.

Cameron will return home Thursday as it looks to exact revenge on Texas A&M-Kingsville (11-10, 5-9). The Aggies are currently holding on to one of the final playoff spots, but Tabbert said the team is looking to move up down the stretch.

“We play the way we did tonight and we are going to help ourselves,” he said. “We’re still in the running. We have to take care of business down the stretch.”
