Cameron Men Challenged by TCU
FT. WORTH, Texas—Cameron men’s basketball team competed against Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth on Saturday in its lone pre-season exhibition match. The Aggies put up a fight, but were unable to match the Horned Frogs and fell 68-46.
CU’s men’s basketball coach Wade Alexander was pleased with his team’s overall performance.
“We played hard. We got some guys some minutes, which will be helpful as we move into the regular season,” Alexander said. “We were just trying to figure out what our guys can do, especially the new guys.”
Newcomer Andrew “Big Country” Thomas started for the Aggies and showed his value by bringing down seven rebounds. Freshman Andrew “Grenada” Thomas and sophomore Jonathan Patino had good games as well and saw a combined 33 minutes of time on the court.
“Big Country, Grenada, and Jonny played pretty well. I am looking forward to seeing what they’re going to do for us in season,” Alexander said.
Junior Vinicius Telo was the real standout for the Black and Gold in the match-up, earning 20 total points and leading the team in rebounds.
“Telo played well. He could have played better, but he did pretty well. I’m happy,” Alexander said.
The men’s coach believes his team is getting better, but acknowledged the men still have room for improvement.
“We did a little better, especially defensively, but we there is definitely still work to be done in that area,” he said.
The men’s season officially kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 12 in Goodwell, Okla. where the Aggies will face off against Oklahoma Panhandle State.
