Box Score ADA, Okla.—The Cameron men’s basketball team was in fine form today when the men took on East Central. The Aggies outscored the Tigers 63-54.
The Black and Gold led by 10 points going into the half, but the Tigers were able to tie it up shortly after the second half got underway and the contest stayed close for the remainder of the game. CU managed to pull away at the 1:16 minute mark with a pair of free throws from Thomas Razor, giving the Aggies an eight point lead—a lead the squad was able to maintain throughout the rest of the game.
Men’s basketball coach Wade Alexander said he was happy with how his team played, especially considering this was the squad’s first game back since Christmas vacation.
“We rebounded well, we took care of the ball pretty well and we played a lot of guys,” Alexander said. “It was good to be able to get another road win.”
Milton Garner was excellent for CU in today’s match-up. The senior was 9-15 in total field goals, racking up a notable 21 points. Garner also had a block and grabbed a pair of steals. Sophomore Desmond Henry was critical for the Aggies offensively as well. Henry finished the game with 17 points on 6-10 shooting.
“Milt played well. He had a solid game and just needs to keep doing what he can do,” Alexander said. “Desmond played well too. He had a good second half. Now, he just needs to put two halves together.”
Alexander said he is pleased with how well the men are holding up since they had such a frontloaded schedule and is looking ahead to the rest of the season.
“Our guys are still in really good shape overall, and I think we played pretty well for such a long break. We have a really good regional record and need to add to that and keep getting better,” he said.
The CU men (9-3, 5-1) will not compete again until Jan. 11 when they play Lone Star Conference rival Eastern New Mexico. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. in the Aggie Gym.
