Cameron Baseball Begins Season with 4-0 Sweep of Northeastern State

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron Aggies baseball team (4-0) opened the season on the right track with a four-game sweep of Lone Star Conference rival Northeastern State over a two-day span at McCord Field.

After putting the Riverhawks away to the tune of 9-6 in game one on Sunday, the Aggies finished their scheduled doubleheader with NSU on Monday and took that game 11-7.

In the second day of scheduled double headers, the Aggies won game three 7-5 after rallying from 5-0 down.

The Aggies also topped the Riverhawks 7-3 in the fourth and final game of the series.

For the series, the Aggies recorded 10 or more hits in three of the four games including a 17 hit outburst in game two.

They also found their stride defensively by decreasing their fielding errors in every game. Cameron fielded a perfect game in the finale, committing no errors, after committing just one in game three.

In game three, the Aggies found their rally caps after being down 5-0 headed into the bottom of the seventh.

A P.J. Ortega single and Taylor Lyons walk put three on the bags for CU before NSU’s Frank Sprick’s offering to Josh Dawson resulted in a fielding error to allow a run to score. From there, the flood gates opened.

For the inning, the Aggies added seven runs on four hits and one error. They did, however, leave more on the table as three runners were left stranded.

Jerry A’Hearn, James Rhodes and Wade Myatt all picked up wins on the weekend. Rhodes also worked himself into a save opportunity in game one and added that to his body of work for the series.

The Aggies return to the diamond on Feb. 18 with a trip to Central Oklahoma. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. in Edmond.
