Aggies Get Win over Tigers at Home as Gilliam Posts 16, 73-64

LAWTON, Okla. – Dylan Gilliam provided an offensive spark off the bench with 16 points and Nathan Murray pulled down 11 rebounds as the Cameron Aggies (14-9, 4-4) completed the regular season sweep of the East Central Tigers (9-13, 2-6) at home on Monday night, 74-63.

Gilliam, who has begun the game on the bench in recent games, brought the offensive spark the move was intended to make tonight.

“That’s what he is there for,” said Head Coach Wade Alexander. “The coaching staff has talked to him a lot about his role and he came up big for us tonight.”

Cameron’s Milton Garner led all scorers with 18 points while also pulling down seven rebounds. He was one of three Aggies to post double digits.

The game started slow offensively for both teams as Cameron led just 19-9 with less than eight minutes remaining in the first.

Cameron built its lead to 11 at 22-11 but the Tigers responded with a 14-2 to take the lead at 25-24. Freshman Desmond Henry sank a charity toss to knot it all even 25-25 at the half.

In the second, the Aggies opened up on a 20-4 run to take a 45-29 lead.

“To be able to come out and respond like that, I think shows the character of our guys,” said Alexander. “This was a very, very big game for our team and I expect them to play with that same intensity the rest of the way.”

Their lead grew to as many as 20 before the Tigers again tried to rally, coming within nine with under a minute remaining.

The Aggies finished the night shooting 42.6 percent (23 of 54) while connecting on 50 percent (6 of 12) of their shots from behind the arc.

Cameron returns to the court to host Southeastern Oklahoma on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at Aggie Gym. The game is set to tip off at 8 p.m. and is proudly presented by the Ross Hankins Insurance Agency.
