LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron Aggies baseball team (10-4, 9-3 LSC) returned home this weekend and stepped out to conference play to host Heartland Conference member Newman but they were unable to pick up the opening win, falling 11-7 at McCord Field on Friday afternoon.
The Jets posted their first two runs of the game off Aggie starter
Corey Davidson (3-1) in the second and third innings.
Down 2-0, reigning Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week
Chase Larsson tapped a single to right field before being brought in by a
Kenny Held triple to center field.
Joe Halley’s two-bagger to right field brought Held in to knot the game even at 2-2.
CU took the 3-2 lead in the fourth as
Brad Blumer blasted a towering single shot to left field from the DH spot.
Newman retook the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth but did not hold it for long as
Nate Valdez homered to make it 4-4 heading into the sixth.
The Jets exploded for five runs in the seventh, aided by three Cameron errors, to add the winning runs to the board, 9-4.
The Ags added a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning as Halley’s second double of the day brought in Held and Valdez, making it 9-6.
The Jets added two more insurance runs in the eighth and CU was able to add only one in the ninth, a Larsson home run, to end the game at 11-7.
Head Coach Todd Holland’s squad banged out 13 hits but committed six errors on the game while the Jets scattered 12 hits but committed no errors.
Kyle Burkhardt picked up the win for Newman, tossing seven innings and allowing ten hits and striking out eight. He allowed six runs and walked two.
 The Aggies and Jets return to the diamond tomorrow for a scheduled double header with first pitch set for Noon at McCord Field in Lawton.
