CHICKASHA, Okla. – Junior Chase Larsson got his national-best 24th home run and the Cameron Aggies (25-13) came away with an 11-3 nonconference victory over the Drovers of USAO on Tuesday afternoon at Bill Smith Ballpark.
The first three Aggies reached based and Andrew Garcia opened up the scoring with a sacrifice fly to bring in Josh Dawson. Two more runs would come in to make it a 3-0 ball game after the first frame.
The Drovers added a single run in the bottom half of the first while the two teams traded runs in the second to make it 4-2.
USAO’s Brandon Jewett cut it to 4-3 with a home run in the fourth but the Aggies returned in the fifth with five runs of their own.
Freshman designated hitter Brad Blumer added three of those five with one swing of his bat as he got his second homer of the season.
In the sixth, up 9-3, Larsson powered out No. 24 and Garcia got his second RBI of the game as he drove in Kenny Held to cap off the scoring for the day.
Clay Vanderlaan (3-1) picked up the victory on 5.1 innings pitched. The junior from Houston scattered eight hits and allowed three runs (two earned) while striking out five and handing out just one free pass.
Justin Watley picked up the save, his second of the season, on extended relief work. In 3.2 innings, Watley surrendered just two hits and struck out six batters. He did not allow a run.
The Aggies will return to the diamond again on Friday when they travel to Lone Star Conference rival Abilene Christian is a critical regular season showdown for both teams. First pitch is slated for 7 pm at Crutcher Scott Field.
