Mean Green beat Aggies in exhibition, 78-49

DENTON, Texas —The Cameron Aggies fell to NCAA Division I opponent North Texas 78-49 in an exhibition game at The Super Pit in Denton.

In the first half the Aggies were able to keep with the Mean Green up until the 16 minute mark as they had the score tied at eight at the first media timeout. After that, UNT’s Tony Mitchell and the rest of the Mean Green took over with a five point rally that really kicked off the North Texas offensive attack.

The first half was filled with missed opportunities for the Aggies as they only went 21% from the field in the first 20 minutes. The Aggies made three of the nine three pointers in the first half which was one better than the Mean Green. They were able to keep the rebounds close in the first as they were only trailing UNT by six in that category.

The second half was a better contest, in comparison to the first half. Cameron shot better from the field with 31.3% and shot just as well from the arc with 33.3%.

For the game, the Aggies shot 26.6% from the field, 33.3% form the three point line, and 77.8% from the charity stripe.

North Texas could not miss in the game as they shot almost 50% from the field. They were led by Chris Jones who had 16 points. North Texas’ forward Mitchell scored 11 points and grabbed 7 boards.

Overall, the Aggies were outmatched in the paint and the rebounds. North Texas had 32 points in the paint compared to the Aggies 16, and CU was out-rebounded by 11 (CU-39, UNT-50). Also, the size of North Texas was able to collect nine blocks compared to Cameron’s two.

Cameron was led by Asaad Robinson who came out in the second half and scored 16 points to give him 20 for the game. Robinson also led the Aggies in steals with 3 and tied with Craig Foster for assists with 2. Also, Rudy Harrell grabbed nine rebounds in the game

The Aggies next game will be at home against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Tuesday, Nov. 20, right after the women's game.
