Foster scores 20 in loss at Texas A&M Kingsville

Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – It was a tale of two halves for the Cameron men’s basketball team who held Texas A&M Kingsville to 15 points in the first half but then turned around to score 41 in the final 20 minutes to defeat the Aggies, 56-48.

In the first half it was a low scoring affair with Cameron leading Texas A&M Kingsville, 22-15. Most of the Aggie scoring happened in the first five minutes of the game where they took 9-2 advantage and held onto the lead throughout the half. Craig Foster hit three big free shots from downtown leading CU with nine points.

However, neither team hit particularly well from the charity stripe going a combined 1-6 and from the field 16-50.

The last time Cameron held a team to 15 points or under was on Nov. 27, 2010 against Tarleton State where CU held the Texans to 14 points at the half.

In the second half the Javelinas opened on a 14-6 run and took their first lead of the game at the 13:34 mark. From there both teams went on trading buckets until Kingsville broke a 30-30 tie and went on a 7-0 run to give them their largest lead of the night.

With just under eight minutes left the Aggies went on a five point swing after a Foster three pointer and a Trevor Smith layup to pull CU within one (39-38) and forcing TAMUK to burn a timeout.

Kingsville following the timeout would pull away from Cameron going on a 7-0 run and they would hold on to beat CU, 56-48

Leading the Aggies was Foster who hit six three-pointers en route to a 20 point night. Tim Johnson had nine points and dished out four assists. Jonathan Patino led the team with seven boards.

As a team Cameron went 18-55 (32.7%) from the field and 6-14 (42.9%) from the free throw line. Texas A&M Kingsville was 21-50 (42%) from the field and 10-18 (55.6%) at the line. Rebounds were even for both teams with 38.

The loss for Cameron moves them to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in Lone Star Conference play. CU will take next couple days off and return to action on Dec. 1 against Incarnate Word at 4 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas.
