Box Score CANYON, Texas—Despite leading at the half, the Cameron University men’s basketball team falls today, in Canyon, Texas, to the #25 West Texas Buffs, 57-38.
The Aggies fell behind by two early and the score remained that way for the first four minutes. CU was able to put three more on the board before the second media timeout and then mounted a rally and put up six more before the 10 minute mark finishing the first half up 23-16.Â
Cameron shot well in the first half, going 38.5% from the field and 20% from the arc. They were +1 in both turnover and rebound margin through the first 20 minutes. Tim Johnson was key to the Aggies rally as he put up eight points with a couple coming off WT turnovers. Jonathan Patino had five points and four rebounds in the half.
The second half was a different story for the men and they did not score a point in the second half until five minutes into the half and gave up a seven point lead.
Cameron was 25% from the field in the second half and 9% from behind the arc. They were able to convert all their free throws in the second, going 6-6 from the line. WT countered that with a 50% FG percentage, 33.3% from three, and 87.5% from the charity stripe, going to the line 16 times in the half.
CU allowed way too many points in the paint, and could not control the boards, as West Texas had 30 points in the paint and out rebounded CU 57-38. CU turned the ball over 16 times in the second half to give them 24 in the game, compared to West Texas’ 14.
Tim Johnson led the way for the Aggies with 14 points and three assists. Craig Foster scored eight and Jonathan Patino finished with 5 points and six rebounds. For the game, the Aggies were 33.3% from the field, 15.4% from three, and 100% from the free throw line.
The Aggies will return home for their next game as the take on Eastern New Mexico, Wednesday, Dec. 12, after the women’s game.
