LAWTON, Okla.--The Cameron University volleyball team beat Texas A&M-Kingsville in 3-1 tonight to earn their first Lone Star Conference win (19-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-13).
Aggie Gym was jumping tonight as the Aggies got a big win over a conference foe. After losing the first set 19-25 Cameron rallied back and won the second set 25-20. The third set was a close one, with the score remaining tied for most of the set when the Aggies took the an edge late winning 25-23.
Cameron carried momentum into the fourth set and won that convincingly 25-13.
"It was a good win for us to get at home,” said Tabbert. “We didn’t play great at the start but finished a lot better. It was just a match that we needed to win. We need to win these matches at home and need to get another one tomorrow.
Offensively, CU was led by a host of attackers. Kathryn Evans followed up her big night Tuesday with another good performance with 18 kills. Both Annelise Carpenter and Shannon Dulaney had 12 kills and Rebecca Green had 10 kills.
Dulaney also had 12 digs to give her fifth double-double of the season. Jenna Risoli also had a double-double with 44 assists and 17 digs which tied her career high. Julisa Ocasio, Mariah Westlake, and Erin Hardy all added over five digs each to help out the team defensively.
With this game, the freshman Evans has turned into an offensive force earning her fourth 15 plus kill match of the season.
"She did a good job, didn’t have too many errors, had some big swings down the stretch, and she came up big for us,” said Tabbert.
This win boosts the Aggies' record to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in conference.
CU has a quick turn-around as they face Incarnate Word tomorrow at 2 pm in Aggie Gym.
