Box Score WICHITA FALLS, Texas—Despite a double-double from Craig Foster, The Cameron University Men’s Basketball team falls to Midwestern State at the D. L. Ligon Colliseum tonight, 72-86.
The Mustangs jumped out on the Aggies early and built up a 20 point lead at the 3:52 mark. CU rallied to get the score closer at the half thanks to a couple drives to the basket by Craig Foster; one coming from a defensive steal and fastbreak opportunity. The score at the half was 44-30.
The Aggies started of the game by shooting 43.5% from the field in the first half. They hit 4-9 from behind the arc and made 66.7% of their free throws; going 6-9. CU was out-rebounded in the first half 14-15 and 12 turnovers seemed to be a key factor to MSU getting a big lead. Foster had eight points at the half, and Kimric Dixon and Andrew Thomas had six points each.
Midwestern State was 15-26 (57.7%) from the field in the first 20 minutes. They shot 37.5% from the three point line and 61.1% from the charity stripe. The Mustangs were able to capitalize on the Aggies turnovers by getting 12 points off them.
The second half was controlled by the Mustangs. The lowest Cameron could get the lead down to was 10 in the second half and that was at the 2:01 mark after a three pointer from Andrew Thomas. The Aggies got in foul trouble and Midwestern closed the game out 86-72.
Cameron shot 46.5% in the second half, going 6-11 from behind the arc and 10-20 at the free throw line.
CU got major contibutions scoring from Asaad Robinson, who lead the team with 20 points, Craig Foster, who had a double-double with 18 points and 10 assists, and Kimric Dixon and Andrew Thomas, who both scored 12 points.
Shooting was strong from both teams tonight; the Aggies shot 45.1% from the field, 50% from behind the arc, and 55.2% from the charity stripe. They were out-rebounded 27-35 and lost the turnover battle by one.
MSU used a 57.1% from the field, 40% from three, 66.7% from the charity stripe, and 13 second chance points to beat the Aggies tonight. Five of the Mustangs players had double digit scoring games and Kevin Grayer scored 20 points on the night.
With this loss, Cameron falls to 10-6 on the year with a 6-4 Lone Star Conference record and returns them back to two games behind Incarnate Word and MSU in the LSC Standings. MSU retains their tie at the top spot and boosts their record to 12-5 and 8-2 in the LSC.
Next up for the Aggies, they will host Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. and then host Incarnate Word that Saturday, Feb. 2 at 4 p.m.
