Aggies fall in straight sets to #6 West Texas A&M

Box Score

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University volleyball team falls in three sets tonight to the #6 ranked West Texas A&M Lady Buffs tonight at the Aggie Gym.

The Lady Buff defense stifled the CU offense in each of the three sets, keeping them under .100 in two of the three sets and a .103 hitting percentage in the second set. The Aggies leading offensive player, Kelle Carver was held to only seven kills while Kat Evans got 6 kills. Kayla Hebert had her 10th double double of the season with 20 assists and 12 digs, while Erin Hardy added 13 digs. The Cameron defense got five team blocks at the net, with Annelise Carpenter was credited with three of those.

"We were pretty competitive for half of two of the sets, said head coach Doug Tabbert. "They (West Texas) played well and made it difficult for us offensively, kind of overwhelmed us… It was a little discouraging because we were having a hard time getting kills and they weren't."

"She (Kelle) has been carrying the load for a while and you had to imagine that she would eventually have an off night… We didn't really do a good job picking up the slack around her."

The WT offense hit .295 while also totaling 10 total blocks. They were led offensively by Halie Harton and Laura Iwuchukwu with 11 kills and Lauren Bevan with 10. Kameryn Hayes had 25 assists and Kyli Schulz had 18. On defense, Lauren Britten led the way with 21 digs, while Harton had 14 to give her a double double for the match. Iwuchukwu added eight blocks to the effort.

"I give them (WT) a lot of credit, there is a reason they are ranked as high as they are and they really played well defensively. When we played at their place, we were the defensive team; here they flipped that around on us and really dominated the match."

The loss puts Cameron at 6-19 and 0-12 in conference play, while WT is now 21-3 and an undefeated 11-0 in LSC play.

The Aggies will head south this weekend as they face Texas Woman's on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. and then will play at Texas A&M-Commerce the next afternoon.
