Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – After a slow start Cameron found their offensive rhythm and knocked down Southwestern Adventist 89-53 at the Aggie Gym on Saturday night.
Cameron (5-5) relied on double digit scoring from five players with
Desmond Henry leading the way with 21 points.
"We did come out flat; we were working on getting some inside touches and it took a little while for us to get adjusted," said head coach
Nate Gamet.
"It's always good finish off before the break with a win. We aren't where we want to be in wins and losses but we had an extremely tough non-conference schedule against some really good teams which will prepare us for the conference season."
The first half turned out to a cat and mouse game between the Knights and Aggies early with both teams getting locked up in a 19-19 tie past the midway point. Cameron found their offensive stroke in the final four minutes before halftime knocking down 23 points to lead 42-29 at the intermission.
Charles Joy would lead Cameron on the floor with 11 points, we was also a perfect 4-4 from the field and 3-3 at the line. The Aggies also were out-rebounding the Knights 21 to 5.
Cameron attacked out of the gates in the second half with 57% shooting on the floor to quickly put the Knights away.
"We just had a sense of urgency coming out of the locker room in the second half with the understanding that they can't come out flat," added Gamet. "Usually we are decent to start game and sluggish in the second half; today they executed a few things better and took care of the ball.
Aaron Thompson would match his season high with 12 points,
Will Cook and Charles Joy both left with 11 each, and Sean McGary had 10 points. Henry went 7-11 from the field and was a rebound short of a double-double.
The Aggies pulled down 40 boards compared to 13 from the Knights. CU also shot 54.7% from the field and limited themselves to only eight turnovers.
Cameron will be off until Dec. 31 when they travel to UT-San Antonio for an exhibition game to close out the year.
