Aggie men win thriller over Oklahoma Christian, 77-75

Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – Will Cook gave Cameron their first consecutive double-double performance since 2007 as the Aggies would hold off Oklahoma Christian late with a 77-75 win on Saturday afternoon.

The game was by no means a walk in the part for Cameron (4-4) with 21 lead changes and four ties.

"Oklahoma Christian is a good team, it's one of those deals were we had a chance in the second half to spread it out and put them away," said head coach Nate Gamet. "We either miss a free throw or give up an offensive rebound and a put back; those are things we need to clean up."

"We need to understand the importance of every possession, we gave away too many possessions today that we didn't need to and that allowed them to get some easy buckets on their end."

First half turned into a back and forth battle between the Aggies and Eagles. After Oklahoma Christian opened the game up 6-0 neither team would hold onto a one possession lead until CU went up five points with just over a minute left.

As the half came to a close, Kimric Dixon nailed a three-pointer with ten seconds left to maintain a five point advantage. However, the Aggies weren't quick enough at the buzzer as OC benefited from a Kendre Talley bucket to make it a 34-31 Cameron lead at the half.

The battle continued in the second half as both teams traded buckets until Cameron turned it up with under ten minutes left and went on a 10-1 run on the Eagles to give CU a ten point lead. Oklahoma Christian kept hanging around a crawled out of a seven point hole and got within two points after Nick Tate drilled a three-pointer with five seconds left.

In the following possession, OC put Craig Foster at the line and he would come up with a pair of rare misses to give Oklahoma Christian one last remaining shot. Talley would get an open look at half court; however the ball would rim out to give Cameron their fourth win of the season.

Cook left the game with 19 points and 11 rebounds, Foster tied him and dished out four assists; Dixon came away with 11 and Tank Mayberry added 10 points.

"Every game for the rest of the year is must wins for us," added Gamet. "We have the same record as last year and that group was mature enough to make a change and go win 15 out of their last 19; that's something we have the talent to do."

"But do we have the mental toughness and resolve, I think it's in there and that is some we want and we will going to be searching for."

Cameron will have some time before hitting the floor again; on Dec. 18 they will host Northwestern Oklahoma at 7 pm in the Aggie Gym.
