Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – After living on the winning edge of close games this season the Cameron men's basketball team found themselves on the losing end falling 59-57 at Texas A&M Kingsville on Wednesday night.
Cameron (9-7, 3-2 LSC) rattled off four wins under three points or less in 2014 and led for nearly 38 minutes but Texas A&M Kingsville (6-11, 1-4 LSC) held CU to only two points in the final four minutes for the win.
The game was a tale of two halves for Cameron who shot 58% from the field in the first half and 33% in the second half. Cameron also made four three pointers to start the game but only connected with one in the final 20 minutes.
Cameron had three players in double-figures, with
Will Cook leading the way with 12 points,
Craig Foster added 11, and Sean McGary came up with 10 points.
The Aggie men opened up blazing with a 10-1 run to start the game as they nearly shot lights out from the field going 10-17 and hitting four three pointers to take a sizeable 32-23 lead at the half.
A slow start coming out of the locker room allowed Texas A&M Kingsville to get within two points (40-38) of Cameron. Despite having the Javelinas right of their tails, the Aggies pulled away by nine points with five minutes remaining before the tides changed.
After a 55-49 Aggie lead with 4:40 remaining, Texas A&M Kingsville climbed back with a 9-2 run to tie the game at 57 with two minutes to go.
Both teams had their chances late and Cameron had possession of the ball with 34 seconds to go with a chance to win the game.
However, an Aggie turnover handed the ball to Kingsville and they connected with a layup just before the buzzer to win the game.
Cameron won the rebounding battle 32 to 28 but Texas A&M Kingsville edged the Aggies in shooting 45.7% to 44.7%.
The Aggies will have the next two days to regroup before Saturday when they host Angelo State at 4 pm.
