LAWTON – In a four set battle,
Kendra Adams had a career high 19 kills in a 3-1 loss to the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs. The loss breaks a four game win streak and drops Cameron to a 9-8 overall record and a 2-6 Lone Star Conference mark, while WT moves to 17-3 and a perfect 8-0 in conference play.
After falling behind 4-2 early in set one, a three point rally powered by two
Cristina Viera kills gave the Aggies a one point lead. From there, for every point the Lady Buffs got, CU got two and built their lead up to five, with the score at 20-15. A 5-2 run, was capped by two Adams' kills that gave Cameron the set one victory, 25-18. The Aggies had 17 kills and just five errors for a .364 percentage in the set.
West Texas A&M came out firing in set two, jumping out to a 9-3 lead. The Aggies would score just seven more points in the set, as the Lady Buffs closed the set on a nine point rally to tie the match with a 25-10 set win.
Set three was back and forth with each team trading rallies, and five ties. Late in the set, a three point run gave WT a 21-17 lead, but a 5-2 run by the Aggies brought them to within a point, 23-22. The Lady Buffs would then close it out with a kill and an Aggie error and take set three 25-22.
WT got an early lead in set four, but Cameron fought back with a point rally to put the score at 10-9. The two teams traded points from there and a kill from
Rebecca Green put the score at 18-17 in favor of WT. The Lady Buffs made a big 7-2 run that would give them the set, 25-19 and the match 3-1.
Adams hit .234 with a career high 19 kills and added two blocks to the effort.
Kat Evans chipped in 10 kills, while
Kayla Hebert led the team with 28 assists to go along with 17 digs. Additionally,
Ingrid Boatman had 11 assists, and Viera led the team with 19 digs.
Cameron hit just .094 and had five team blocks in the match, while WT hit .235 and had 13 team blocks.
The Aggies will return to the Aggie Gym on Saturday at 2 p.m. for a LSC match against Eastern New Mexico.
Match Notes:This was the first time the Aggies have won a set against West Texas A&M since Sept. 6, 2011.
Kayla Hebert recorded her team high 11th double-double of the season and her third in a row.
